My name is Hildur Loftsdóttir. My family´s origin lies in the West of Iceland: Strandir area and the Snæfellsnes peninsula. I grew up in Akureyri and later moved to Reykjavík. I have also lived in Sweden as a child, in France in my twenties and I have been living in America since 2008.
Therefore I´m a huge language enthusiast. Though I have to admit that Icelandic – in all it´s wonderful complexity – is my favorite language. Sharing the passion I have for my native language with interested students and witnessing their progress is very rewarding.
My education consists of two BA degrees: one in Film Studies from L´Université d´Aix-Marseille in France and the second in Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Iceland. Currently, I’m a student at the University of Iceland, working toward an M.Ed in Icelandic Teaching.
Before moving to America, I worked for more than a decade as a journalist at the Icelandic newspaper Morgunblaðið but also in film and television. Since 2011, I have taught Icelandic for groups at the Scandinavia House in New York City and given private lessons in-person and on Skype. I have to say that teaching is the most satisfying job I have ever had.
“Excellent professeur rencontré grâce au bouche à oreille. Hildur est non seulement extrêmement pédagogue, mais en plus elle est très agréable et possède un grand sens de l’humour”. – Aurelien & Cynthia, Bordeaux.
I look forward hearing from you: hildurspal@gmail.com
